„We will defend ourselves“

Only two months after 9/11, George W. Bush speaks at the General Assembly of the United Nations to declare that there is no room for neutrality in the war against terrorism. You are either with us or against us, was the slogan.

It was a very interesting speech about the September 11 attacks and following U.S. foreign policy plans. Bush and Cheney seemed pretty afraid about the fact that people could question the official 9/11 report. I wonder why. But their agressive appeal to never tolerate any other theories obviously didn’t work. More and more people are asking questions and demand a new independent investigation to give a working explanation for what happened and who benefited. But back to the speech, what else do we hear?

Best of the Bush monologue: Almost funny if it wouldn’t have dead serious consequences…

We will defend ourselves and our future against terror and lawless violence. The United Nations was founded in this cause.

(…) We must speak the truth about terror. Let us never tolerate outrageous conspiracy theories concerning the attacks of September the 11th, malicious lies that attempt to shift the blame away from the terrorists themselves, away from the guilty.

(…) We must press on with our agenda for peace and prosperity in every land.

(…) We are confident, too, that history has an author who fills time and eternity with his purpose. We know that evil is real, but good will prevail against it. This is the teaching of many faiths.

And in that assurance, we gain strength for a long journey. It is our task, the task of this generation, to provide the response to aggression and terror. We have no other choice, because there is no other peace.

We did not ask for this mission, yet there is honor in history’s call. We have a chance to write the story or our times, a story of courage defeating cruelty and light overcoming darkness. This calling is worthy of any life and worthy of every nation.

So let us go forward, confident, determined and unafraid.

Thank you very much.

G.W. Bush, November 10, 2001

Truth about terror -> Agenda for peace -> Evil & Good -> Long journey -> No other choice -> Honor -> Worthy of any life and every nation…

Sounds like a really good plan of action for more war and terror. And that’s what happened the following years: War in Afghanistan, Patriot Act, Bush-Doctrine/Preventive War, Guantánamo, War in Iraq.

Sad but true, despite Obamas promises for change, that’s what his administration is now continuing to do as well. No change in U.S. foreign policy so far! That’s worth a Nobel Peace Prize!? Yes we can… and war is peace!

"Change" is possible, as long as no change is involved. Orwell would be proud. // CC: Nick Bygon
